A Dream Kitchen in a Few Easy Steps
By Mike Ferrara, "Lazy Homeowner a.k.a. TechnoDad"
Carey is a hard-working advertising manager who was stuck with an early-70's kitchen in her cozy Dallas-area condo. Dark wood cabinets, peach-colored wallpaper and dingy almond countertops gave her compact kitchen a tired, dated appearance.
Carey wisely got rid of the oak look and installed nice, clean, white cabinets. In addition, she opted for a tall tiled backsplash, a new sink and faucet, dishwasher and over-the-range microwave. To cap it all off, she selected a Wilsonart High Definition countertop.
Carey explains that the hardest part of the replacing the countertop was picking the right color and that "the whole process wasn't as bad as I thought". She ended up picking Deepstar Agate for the desired high-end look, complemented by a bevel-edge treatment. Once the fabricator measured for the new countertop and completed a blueprint, Carey estimated the turnaround time at only 12 days with a quick, 1-hour installation.
"All my friends comment on how much the countertop mimics natural stone and wonder where the seams are!" Carey says, and regrets waiting a whole year to go forward with the renovation.
With the exception of some under-cabinet lights, she is finished with the kitchen and is now tackling her early-disco-era bathroom. Good luck Carey!
